In a few days we will be heading back to Bali. We couldn't pass it up, as it was pretty darn cheap. We were there just a year ago and I never dreamed we would be going back so soon, but the opportunity arose and here we go.

We will be heading almost straight away to the northwestern beach town of Pemuteran. Here Amy and I will get our PADI certificate (scuba diving), which involves 4 open water dives. We did the pool dives and class in Novato in March and I'm really looking forward to getting in the ocean and seeing the undersea life up close. We are staying in the same wonderful little hotel, Pondok Sari, which consists of a few bungalows on the beach. It has a wonderful garden, beautiful pool and a fantastic restaurant. Our dive masters will be at "Reef Seen", which is a few hundred meters down the beach. They are Australian and have been doing this for almost 20 years. They also raise sea turtles.

After a few days in Pemuteran, we will be in Ubud for one day only and then head to the island of Sulawesi, about an hour's flight north. Here, our guide, Dodo, will drive us for 8 hours to Tana Taraja, an area of the island famous for its hill villages, architecture and unusual customs. They are especially famous for their funerals, which are huge affairs that last for days. We'll spend a couple of days here and then head back for a 2 day stay in Ubud before we fly home. We found Dodo through the Lonely Planet website...many other travelers had a good time with him and he is a good guide.

We hope to get to a computer once in awhile, but we'll be in some out of the way places and may not be able to check into the blog as much as we want.
